The Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) recently announced Ladan Ghahramani as the winner of the 2020 Emerging Leader Rising Star Award, a prestigious honor. Ladan has worked across the world with over a decade of tourism management experience. She began her career at age 20 as a tour guide in her home country of Iran. Her work ethic and passion were apparent from an early age, helping her to establish a faculty seat while working towards her master’s degree in Tourism Marketing from her home university, Allameh Tabataba’i University in Tehran. Shortly thereafter Ladan co-founded an eco-tourism development company, which she co-owned for four years.

In November of 2020, Ladan completed her doctorate in Sustainable Tourism Management in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University. Her doctoral research explored the role of resident-tourist interactions. At Travel Oregon as the Head of Research, she applies her doctoral work and wealth of experience to the betterment of the Oregon community, working to protect the state’s social, cultural, and natural assets. She also shares her passion as an educator, local and national industry leader, and as a board member of the Greater Western Chapter of the Travel and Tourism Research Association (GWTTRA). Ladan enjoys discovering Oregon’s best trails to run, hike and bike and best slopes to ski.

When asked how she found the strength in 2020 to accomplish so much, she emphasized “the main reason I was able to defend my PhD while being away from my family for five years, during a pandemic, while working full-time job were therapy and meditation that helped me believe in myself, as well as the amazing friends and co-workers that made me feel loved and supported.”

She wants others to “believe in your abilities and don’t be afraid to reach out to your community for support.”

NC State Extension Tourism wishes to congratulate Ladan on this incredible honor! We look forward to following the amazing contributions you will continue to make to the travel industry and Travel Oregon.
