Collapse ▲Hello!
I’m excited to introduce myself as your new Extension Therapeutic Horticulture Program Manager. I’m thrilled to join the team and contribute to the growth and development of therapeutic horticulture programs throughout the state.
As an MSW (Master of Social Work), I bring over 30 years of experience in working with clients, families, and their communities, and I have connected people and plants throughout my career as a way of helping people defuse stress and navigate difficult situations. My passion for therapeutic horticulture stems from my belief in the power of plants to enhance physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Most recently, I earned my HTR (Registered Horticultural Therapist) status through the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA), following several years of coursework, internship, and field work in long-term care, assisted living, and day health settings. I hold certificates in both Therapeutic Horticulture and Horticultural Therapy.
As your Extension Therapeutic Horticulture Program Manager, I’m committed to:
- Providing education and resources: I am the course administrator and co-instructor for the online Therapeutic Horticulture courses through NC State’s collaboration with the North Carolina Botanical Garden. I will also be offering workshops, training sessions, and online resources to help individuals and organizations learn more about therapeutic horticulture.
- Supporting community initiatives: I’ll work closely with Extension staff statewide as well as community organizations to develop and implement therapeutic horticulture programs.
- Promoting research: I’ll be involved in promoting research projects to investigate the benefits of therapeutic horticulture, and sharing findings with the broader community.
I’m also honored to be the 2024-25 president of Carolinas Horticultural Therapy Network, a nonprofit professional group that connects TH/HT practitioners, volunteers, and students for professional development, networking, and support.
I’m eager to connect with you and learn about your interests and needs. Please feel free to reach out to me at afbruzzi@ncsu.edu or 919-513-3693. Let’s work together to create a greener, healthier, and more vibrant community.
Welcome to the garden!
Amy Bruzzichesi, MSW, HTR, Therapeutic Horticulture Program Manager
