NC State Extension Gardener and UNC’s North Carolina Botanical Garden are delighted to announce our 2025 Online Certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture course schedule! All are welcome to register for TH1: Introduction to Therapeutic Horticulture to learn the foundations of this inspiring work, and completion of this course opens access to TH2: Program Development and TH3: Accommodating Diverse Populations. Completing the first three courses is the prerequisite to TH4: Program Management, which earns participants the Online Certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture, issued by both universities to those who complete all four courses successfully. Our 2025 schedule:

TH1: Introduction to Therapeutic Horticulture – Jan 6 – Feb 17 and Aug 25 – Oct 13

TH2: Program Development – Feb 17 – Apr 6

TH3: Accommodating Diverse Populations – Aug 11 – Sep 28

TH4: Program Management – Oct 6 – Nov 17

We offer discounts to Extension Master Gardener volunteers everywhere, NC State employees, and members of JC Raulston Arboretum and the NC Botanical Garden, as well as our Early Bird discount up to three weeks before the start of each course.

As therapeutic horticulture practitioners, we believe that well-designed, affordable education in this field is the key to ensuring that all of our participants have high-quality, intentional, and safe TH programming planned and provided by well-trained and prepared professionals and volunteers doing this work. The courses are each six weeks, with multimedia instruction from highly qualified instructors from both universities and weekly interaction with instructors and peers.

The Online Certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture celebrates its fifth year in 2025 and is proud to have welcomed over 500 students into our courses from across North Carolina, the United States, and 18 different countries. Learn more about our program and don’t wait to REGISTER — courses fill quickly with limited seats in each session.
